Io avevo portato due lenze striminzite ma Sergio è arrivato davvero attrezzato!
Abbiamo mangiato pesce fresco scottato alla piastra da leccarci i baffi!
Orate, occhiate, perchie e qualche altro pesce che non siamo stati capace di riconoscere...

I have had just two fishing-lines but when Sergio has arrived the music is changed!

"La ragazza italiana parla in inglese con il rospo greco" - ho sentito dire a due avventori del bar quando ho scattato la foto: forse avevano già bevuto troppo, io gli chiedevo solo "stop, please" per il ritratto!
Giancarlo di Animal Rescue sarà felice di vedere che abbiamo appreso qualche piccolo trucco per tenere lontano gli esemplari più fastidiosi...

Notos Beachbar

Non abbiamo potuto incontrare i 14 ragazzi spagnoli del Gruppo Aec di Barcellona perchè, su nostro consiglio, hanno preferito visitare Zante e, avendo a disposizione pochi giorni di navigazione, non hanno avuto tempo e modo di raggiungerci a Lefkada... Immagino di ricevere presto loro notizie e mi auguro che siano approdati anche loro sulle tranquille cale di Notos Beach per apprezzare l'ottima cucica greca e la calorosa ospitalità di Kostantis e della sua straordinaria famiglia, che ha saputo ricreare un angolo di pace, silenzio e colore lungo la spiaggia più frequentata di Zante, proprio di fronte all'isola delle tartarughe di Marathonissi: un capanno fresco ed accogliente tra giardini curati ed orti biologici, nessun recinto, alcuni ombrelloni di foglie di palma sul bordo del mare, tanti scacciapensieri artigianali ed un'atmosfera davvero speciale... Siamo volutamente tornati due notti di seguito ed è stato sicuramente uno dei momenti più belli del nostro viaggio!

We haven't met the Spanish boys because, on our suggestion, they have preferred to visit Zakinthos Island... I'm waiting to receive a mail about their kayak trip and I hope they have landed on the calm coves of Notos Beach to appreciate their good Greek dishes and the warm hospitality of Kostantis and his extraordinary family; they have recreated a place of peace, silence and color along the most frequented beach of the island, in the front of the island of the turtles Marathonissi: a fresh and pleasant bar in the middle of biological gardens, any enclosure, some beach umbrellas made of palm leaves, so many handicraft creations and a special atmosphere indeed... We have slept there two nights and it was surely one of the most beautiful moments of our trip!

Dopo due giorni trascorsi a lavare, sistemare e riporre le attrezzature utilizzate per il viaggio, ho cercato di inserire nuovi post sul blog ma il computer non ne voleva sapere, segno inequivocabile che le vacanze sono davvero finite! Oggi ho inserito qualche nuova foto nei vecchi post... e la nostalgia è aumentata!!!

After two days spent to wash and put back the equipments used for the trip, I tried to insert new post on the blog but the computer didn't want to work, unequivocal mark that the vacations are ended indeed! Today I insert some new photos on the old posts... and nostalgia is increased!

I turisti italiani nelle Isole Ioniche

Abbiamo visitato dei luoghi meravigliosi, un vero paradiso per il kayak da mare... tuttavia siamo tornati con un senso di amarezza nel cuore: le Isole Ioniche sono invase dai turisti italiani che, anche nei più disabitati "scogli", hanno dato il peggio di sè!
Sia i fruitori di vacanze a basso costo che di più o meno lussuose crociere a bordo di piccole o grandi imbarcazioni, a terra e in mare hanno dimostrato la propria maleducazione e la totale mancanza di rispetto per gli altri e per l'ambiente che li circonda.
Abbiamo imparato che c'è un altro elemento da considerare nella programmazione di un viaggio: scegliere luoghi poco frequentati dagli italiani!

We have visited some marvelous places, a true heaven to practise sea kayak... nevertheless we have returned with a sense of bitterness in the heart: the Ionic Islands are invaded by Italian tourists that, also in the most uninhabited "stones", have given the worse of itself!
It doesn't care if practising of low-cost vacations or more or less luxurious cruises on board of small or great boats, to the land and in the sea they have shown their own rudeness and the overall disrespect for the others and for the environment that surrounds them.
We have learned that there is another element to consider in the planning of a trip: choose places a little frequented by the Italian!

Greenland paddle "Nuuk" by Avatak

Molti complimenti a Niko per il nuovo modello di pagaia groenlandese "Nuuk" che ci ha dato da provare: con un sistema semplificato di costruzione é riuscito a contenere i costi di quasi il 30% mantenendo la qualità di sempre.
Ottime prestazioni e ottimo compromesso tra flessibilità e rigidezza.

9 isole, 11 traversate, 550 km circa, 80 lt di birra, 3 lt di ouzo, 18 lt di succhi di frutta (mela e castagna: droga liquida!), 15 taverne, 15 rock balancing, 3 kg di pesce pescato, 1 melone+1 limone+1 arancia pescati, 9 punture di vespe, 7 bivacchi (Hanry sempre!), 7 abbordaggi e 4 lattine di birra conquistate, oltre al seguente materiale recuperato: 1 boccaglio, 2 occhialini, 1 scarpa da bimbo, 1 paio di scarpe da scoglio, 1 braccialetto, 1 muta, 2.5 mt di poliuretano, 2 ciucci, 5 formine e 1 paletta, 1 asciugamano, 3 cappelli da bimbo, 1 paio di crocs rosa (si regalano!), 1 vaschetta refrigerante sintetica, 30 galleggianti di diverse dimensioni, 1 cappello di paglia, cime varie e un pò di sassi e conchiglie...

9 islands, 11 crossings, 550 km, 80 lt of beer, 3 lt of ouzo, 20 lt of juice (apple and chestnut: liquid drug!), 15 tavernas, 15 rock balancing, 3 kg of line fishing, 1 melon+1 lemon+1 orange found, 9 wasps sting, 7 bivoac, 7 boerding x 4 beers aquired and some material...

MMS from Kefalonia

Notte insonne per il caldo, per un gecko infilatosi nella nostra tenda e per la musica (mai campeggiare nella stessa cala dove hanno già buttato l'ancora degli italiani!). Alba spettacolare e lenta pagaiata di soli 16 km... Celebrazione di fine viaggio alla taverna di Sami, dopo un'accesa discussione con la capitaneria di porto su dove parcheggiare i 5 kayak prima dell'imbarco! Ora non ci resta che attendere il traghetto per il ritorno... GRAN BEL VIAGGIO!
Sleepless night due to the heat, to a gecko in our tent and to the music (don't camp where there are yachting people!). Spectacular sunrise and easy paddling of 16 km... celebration of the end of the kayak trip, after a brutal experience with the port police! Now we're waiting for the return ferry... A VERY WONDERFUL TRIP!

Pranziamo a Vathy e studiamo i nostri prossimi viaggi in kayak sulla carta turistica della Grecia: Creta, Rodi, Cicladi, Sporadi, Dodecanneso, Peloponneso e Lesbo! Fa troppo caldo per riprendere subito a pagaiare, meglio un'altra birra, un altro ouzo ed un ultimo mitico caffè greco...

We have lunch in Vathy and we programm our next kayak trips: Crete, Rhodes, Cyclades, Sporades, Dodekanissa and Lesvos! Too hot to paddle, better one more beer, one more ouzo and a last greek coffee...

MMS from Ithaca

Ieri due traversate di 4 e 10 km su Meganissi e Kalamos. Oggi altre due di 12 e 15 km su Atokos e Itaca. Hanry mette in atto il suo terzo abbordaggio alle barche a vela che incrociano la nostra rotta per estorcere birra fresca. Perdiamo Giovanni per la terza volta... Raggiungiamo la bella Itaca e festeggiamo l'imminente fine del viaggio in taverna con birra&ouzo!


Yesterday two crossing of 4 and 10 km to Meganissi and Kalamos. Today two more of 12 and 15 km to Atokos and Ithaca. Hanry "the pirate" aquired his third aboerd to yachts and he get fresh beer. We again lost Giovanni... We arrived at Ithaca and we celebrate the end of the trip in taverna with beer&ouzo!

Giornata particolarmente afosa e faticosa: 12 bambini urlanti nella cala di Meganissi, sciami di vespe fameliche in quella di Kalamos ed uno scaltro gatto isolano che ci sottrae le 3 occhiate pescate per cena. Per non parlare del forte vento contrario. Alle 21 siamo già tutti in tenda!

A very hot day: screaming kids at Meganissi, hungry wasps at Kalamos and an island cat stole the evening meal. High wind and everyone was in bed at 21 o'clock!

Costa sud un pò monotona, prediletta dai surfisti. Incontro memorabile con Michele e Nicoletta di Trieste, in viaggio a Lefkada con un doppio blu di origine ungherese. Quando Hanry scopre che Michele è un produttore di birra la situazione degenera!

A little boring south coast, full of surfers. Unforgettable encounters with Michele and Nicoletta, paddling in Lefkada with a blue double kayak. When Hanry realize that Michele is a beer brewer the situation became veeery fluid!

La spettacolare costa occidentale ha favorito una pesca miracolosa in un'acqua turchese indescriviibile di un mare solcato unicamente dai nostri kayak. Guardiamo le stelle cadenti sorseggiando una birra.

Fantastic line-fishing on the spectacular west coast. Torqueose sea and only our kayak were there. Shooting stars with liquid fuel.

Chi incontriamo in mare? Marco Ferrario che pagaia con un amico francese, anche loro in vacanza a Lefkada. Patatine e bruscetta alla taverna di Milos, con birra&ouzo, naturalmente! Campo nella più bella spiaggia di sabbia e ciottoli dell'isola.

The unbelievable happened! We met an italian friends paddling in Lefkada. Chips, toasts and liquid fuel at Milos. Tonight we camp in the most beautiful beach you can think of.

Sergio è un mito, non solo perchè è mio fratello: 3 traversate e 65 km in 3 giorni!!! Sembra nato in kayak! Poi però perde tutto quello che stiva nei gavoni e passa il suo tempo ad armare le lenze... E sembra anche divertirsi molto! Oggi abbiamo percorso il canale di Lefkada.

Sergio is a mith, not only because he is my brother: 3 crossing and 65 km in 3 days!!! He takes to the kayak like a fish to water! But he misplaced everything he puts in the hatches and he spends all his time to prepare fish-lines... Today we passed Lefkada channel.

Partenza da Arkoudi molto lenta. Traversata su Lefkada con calma piatta. Spesa e merenda a Nydrì. Cena a base di pesce pescato. Notte in taverna, con birra&ouzo, naturalmente!

Very slow start from Arkoudi. Calm crossing to Lefkada. Shopping and snack at Nydrì. Night in the pub, with beer&ouzo, obviously!
